PTL (La Petite Trotte à Léon)
Characteristics of the 2014 PTL™
A team ultra endurance event
The PTL™ is an "enlarged Tour du Mont Blanc", allowing the route to cross, far from beaten tracks, the massifs surrounding the highest summit of the Alps. This Tour du Mont Blanc takes place on paths sometimes difficult, even non-existent; it includes the crossing of numerous cols (passes) and summits of between 2500 and 3000 metres altitude.
This event is without classification, it is to be realised in complete autonomy by inseparable teams of 2 or 3 participants.
To try the adventure: it is necessary to have experience in endurance sports, a good knowledge of the mountain environment and the topography, a sense of the solidarity and a team spirit.
The route: it is different from one year to the next; it is not way-marked but it is mapped (GPS tracks and maps supplied).
The programme: 295 kilometres with about 26 500 metres of positive height gain.
Maximum authorised time: 142 hours
Start: Chamonix Monday August 25th at 17:30.
Finish: Chamonix before 15:30 Sunday August 31th.
Maximum number of teams: 100
Team composition: teams of 2 or 3 persons of whom at least one must have finished, in the past, the UTMB®, the TOR DES GEANTS or one of the previous PTL™. Dispensations may be granted upon the decision of the race direction upon presentation of a prize list for the last three years, as well as for holders of certificates for state or federal diplomas (high mountain guides, walking guides, instructors…)
Race tactics: teams manage their own progression, refreshments and rest time as they wish. To do this they must use the local infrastructure of refuges and villages (no back-up vehicles or assistance allowed).
